SAFETY CONCERNS ON CONSTRUCTION SITES
Parents have been asked to ensure that their children do not play on construction sites in the village. Thirlstone Homes (Western) Ltd, which is developing the Dorndon House site opposite the School, has issued letters to all local residents, and given talks at the School in a bid to warn children of the dangers within a building site.
There are several building sites currently in the village, and these, along with derelict buildings, are very attractive to children who are bored with playgrounds and would rather explore beyond the secure hoardings.
Construction sites and derelict houses can be dangerous. Parents are asked to “school their children into the risks and dangers of playing or going onto a building site”. There is always the risk of landslip, and stacked materials can easily topple over and cause injuries. Scaffolding is not a climbing frame – and there are risks of falling off heights and platforms.
