HVS has leafleted the parish alerting residents to the threat of "creeping urbanisation" of this part of the village, and written to Wokingham District Council calling for refusal of the application by Millgate Homes for 25 homes to replace Ashingdon, Tumbleweeds, Rose Vale and Mufulira.
This development, combined with 10 flats at Dorndon House, 22 flats at Bonhomie Court, 6 houses at Lea Heath Way and possibly as many as 3 new houses on Harlyn House in School Road would mean 62 new homes - an increase of 8.3% in the number of homes in the parish.
In addition, members of the HVS and parents of children at St. Nicholas School took part in two days of traffic count on 23 and 25 April to monitor traffic movements in School Road.
The Hurst Village Society is objecting to the proposed development on the grounds of:
- over-development of the site
- no capacity in the village to take large scale housing development
- inability of the school to take more children, and the impact of this on current residents
- traffic and highways
- infrastructure just can't take any more homes
- threat to more than 60 beautiful trees which will be felled.
There's more information on these objections inside.
