Golden Jubilee Celebrations were a Great Success
Hundreds of people joined in the celebrations in Hurst to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee. 120 villagers enjoyed the Golden Jubilee Ball at the Village Hall on Saturday 1st June writes John Edwards.
A succulent pig roast supper was followed by first-class musical entertainment by Pete and Hugh. Thanks are due to the dedicated band of helpers who worked all week setting up and decorating the Hall in a red, white and blue Jubilee theme.
A special commendation is due for Terry Bunyard and John Lemon who produced the magnificent centre-piece mural on the stage depicting Windsor Castle, the Long Walk, and royal trumpeters.
Caroline Speer and her helpers arranged the Children's Party on the Village Green on Monday 3rd June. Two professional entertainers occupied more than 100 children with games and magic until teatime when traditional party fare was served.
Fortunately the weather stayed dry allowing games and football on the green. The children were each presented with a memento consisting of a glass Jubilee paperweight as they made their way home.
Children's Poetry competition. Katie Kingham, Lewis Elliot and James Francis were each presented with a commemorative copy of The Oxford Book of Children's Verse in recognition of their entries to the National Poetry Competition.
