More Activities and Facilities for Young People

Young people in the village can take the lead in getting more activities and facilities for themselves and their friends.

"We'd like to get a youth council going in Hurst, so if anyone would like to join they can contact me," said Jan Martin from the Parish Council. "If they join the group then there's more likelihood of them getting the facilities and activities they want."

Jan Martin can be contacted on e-mail or by phone on 0118 934 xxxx.

Skate Park

Leigh Middleton, the youth and community worker covering Hurst and Twyford, is developing plans for a skate park and hard court area for games on the King George V field in Twyford. The district council is also considering a safe cycle route between Hurst and Twyford.

Keen skateboarders won't have to wait for the park to be built, because Leigh is bringing a mobile skate board and BMX track to Hurst to give an idea of the facilities that will be available.

The first visit took place on 8 June, and will be repeated at the Hurst Horse Show on 29 and 30 June. If there is sufficient demand for it there may be further visits during the summer holidays.

Dial-up transport

Hurst Parish Council has applied for funds from the district council for special transport to take young people to and from venues such as the cinema at Winnersh on Friday evenings.

"This will mean that they can ring up and ask for the vehicle, which will be a people-carrier based at Twyford, to collect them from Hurst and take them to the cinema," said Jan Martin. "We will soon know if our bid for the funds has been successful, and then we'll let young people know how to use the service."
