Parish Council News

Village Spring Clean Up

Fantastic to see such a great turnout. We had a record number of over 70 people from ages 5 upwards plus our local scout group to help on the day. This year we collected over 30 car tyres, old bikes, a cooker, old car seats, and also filled four large skips with refuse bags full of litter.

Many thanks to all those who turned up!

The event was covered by the Twyford Advertiser with a full page spread. Well done Hurst.

Our next event will be the autumn tidy up, scheduled for Saturday 27th October.

School Road Playing Field/Pond Area
Plea for help!

We are currently in discussions with Wokingham Borough Council for financial support to improve our play area. Our aim is to extend the play area and install some new equipment, including picnic benches and seats. We are also looking to improve the appearance of the area surrounding the pond.

With budgets being tight, we are hoping to get support from local businesses for aid with any of the following areas:

  • Landscaping the A321 / School Road junction
  • New bench at junction of School Road / A321
  • Wooden tubs and a planting programme around the pond area

In return we would provide a named plaque for any sponsor who is generous enough to support us, and plenty of publicity generated through the local newspapers. For all those interested, please do not hesitate to call me to discuss.

If anyone wishes to join or would like further information about the Parish Council, please give me a call.

Does anyone still hold copies of old HVS Newsletters?

We were pleased to find a copy of the Hurst Village Society Newsletter No. 2. Duncan Kendall will be posting this as an interesting record of the Society in the HVS website www.hvs.org.uk.

Does anyone by any chance have a copy of the very first Newsletter, for inclusion in the archive?

Duncan is interested in any old copies prior to edition No. 66, June 1999 (the oldest one currently on the website). If you do have copies of old Newsletters, he would appreciate it if you could contact him on telephone 0118 934 xxxx .
