HURST SHOW GOES AHEAD
(without the horses)

The Hurst Horse Show and Country Fayre will once again be held on the Willowmead and School fields on 23 and 24 June, but the gymkhana, show, and show-jumping classes for horses and ponies have been cancelled.

David Lochman, chairman of the Horse Show Committee, said that they had decided to take the responsible approach to go ahead with the show, but cancel the horse events. They were not prepared to put Hurst farmers' livestock at risk of Foot and Mouth disease, which could be brought in, inadvertently, on the wheels of horse boxes and trailers from other parts of the countryside.

Instead, the Horse Show Committee is now focussing on the countryside activities and crafts which people can take part in – full details inside this newsletter. Local riders, who usually hack to the show, will be pleased to know that the Committee is considering holding the horse events in September.

The Committee would like to hear from anyone who would be able to sponsor events and activities. For the past 21 years the Show has raised funds for St. Nicholas Primary School, and parents have responded generously to the sponsorship request. However, corporate sponsorship will mean that money raised at the show will go to the school instead of paying for marquees, entertainment and other facilities. Every little helps, so contact David Lochman on 934 xxxx if you’re able to support the show.
