School Road Development Decision Due In October

Wokingham District Council is due to discuss and decide on the Millgate Homes proposal for 25 new dwellings on the site of four current homes in School Road on Wednesday 2 October.

All residents of Hurst can attend the Development Control meeting at Shute End where the Parish Council, Village Society, and our district councillor will speak against the proposals. The meeting starts at 7pm, and it's wise to be in the room by 6.45pm.

The council has been making new policy on what makes 'sustainable' housing development - including the availability and frequency of public transport, efficiency of land use, and easy access to shops and doctors. This policy may be used as part of the decision criteria.

Millgate Homes has produced a robust business plan for the development of the site, currently occupied by Ashington, Tumbleweeds, Rose Vale and Mufulira.

The Village Society will speak of the over-development of the site, lack of capacity in the village for a large scale development, no room in the school for more children, traffic and highways, threat to more than 60 trees which will be felled, lack of basic infrastructure such as mains drainage, and risk of flooding.
